Summer in the back yard resort
Date: Jan 3, 2010
Entry: Last Summer we spent every day splish splashing in the toddler pool in the back yard. Our little guy's shrieks of laughter are contagious. We also spent a lot of time digging in the dirt weeding the veggies - mostly we grazed on raspberries and sweet peas. It's so nice having your own fresh produce - and if you don't have your own garden there's lots of fresh produce at our farmer's market.

Recreation Commission Buoyant about 2009 Pool Season
Date: Oct 23, 2009
Entry: The past season at the Memorial Park Pool exceeded expectations and the recreation commission is buoyant about it. Public swimming was very popular, as were Aquafit and Lane Swims. The introduction of healthy food choices at the concession also proved to be a positive move and appealed everyone. An increase in the number of those participating in the Spring session of swim lessons was noted and several suggestions have been made for the 2010 session. Pool staff has recommended the addition of special events for the 2010 season, including a midnight madness teen event and a 'Dive-In' movie as has been done in the past. The Armstrong Swim Club, in it's 3rd season, also proved to be a popular group. Overall, a great season - and it is expected that 2010, with the new pool, will prove even more sucessful!

future olympian needs pool
Date: Oct 20, 2009
Entry: My husband and I took our son to the Masset Rec centre pool for his first swimming experience. He was at first a little scared but warmed up to the idea. We only got to take him to the pool a few times before it closed down due to the high cost of maintenance. He may be a future olympian swimmer but we may never know as we no longer have a pool. Seriously he is built more for linebacker but he really did enjoy the water and we hope we will once again have a recreation centre in order to be able to continue being active as a family.

Entry: The City of Coquitlam was able to successfully run the Fraser Valley Regional Lifeguard Championship. Lifeguards from all over the province participated in an exciting day of simulated emergencies designed to test a lifeguards skills and see who has the best lifeguarding team.
The day would not have been possible without the commitment of over 40 volunteers who played the roles of victims and judges who evaluated the lifeguarding skills. This was a great experience for everyone involved.
