Celebrating The Flame – A Community Event for everybody

Entry: Join in celebrating the great tradition of the Olympic Spirit as Golden hosts the Olympic Torch Relay on Day 84 of its 106 day cross-Canada tour, traveling through 1,000 communities. Golden is the first community in British Columbia to welcome the Torch back into the host province of the Olympic Games. A celebration encouraging international peace, cooperation and sporting excellence.
On Thursday January 21st, 2010 the Olympic Torch arrives in Golden after its last Alberta stop in Banff.
The VANOC Torch Relay Celebration event will start at 6pm.
A dedicated core committee has been working hard for the past 10 months to create a diverse event schedule with activities starting on Friday January 15, 2010 and ending on Saturday January 2010. During these nine days, activities reflecting on the Olympic Spirit, will animate our Town with lively and engaging activities throughout the community. This will be a January to remember for years to come. Many different service groups are hosting sports and art-related events. Activities include a Hockey Tournament, Snow Sculpturing, Pancake Breakfast, a Concert/Dance with the amazing Polyjesters, and much more.

The Games Fever at Kicking Horse

Entry: Kicking Horse Country is proud to be BC's first point of entry and as such the Olympic Torch will be welcomed with a gala celebration. A full lineup of events is in the works and includes Snow Sculpting (Jan 15 - 17), an open house with various athletic clubs and service organizations (Jan 18 - 20), and then January 21st marks the big day, as the Olympic Torch arrives in Golden. After the celebrations in town, join the Kicking Horse team for a media reception at the Eagle's Eye Restaurant, followed by a torchlight parade and grand finale fireworks. The standing-style reception will be hosted in conjunction with local restaurants as a "Taste of Golden" event, featuring the venues' best appetizers.

The Golden Nordic Ski Club Opens all trails at Earliest Date Ever

Entry: Golden Nordic Ski Club has new trails added to its system and has opened all its trails to excellent conditions! The trails have seen their first race already - the Dawn Mountain Challenge - at the end of November, and this area will prove to be useful for conducting lessons this winter as well. Entry: Golden is an absaloute pristine paradise, with so many beautiful areas to enjoy we are always surprised while we are out riding by the lack of garbage. The residents and people that use our wilderness areas keep things quite clean. If we do see any garbage along the way while hiking or horse riding we always have spare room in our bags to haul it out. It is also a great source of pride to hike with others that do the same, keeping their eyes open to make sure that they too pick up anything that may have strayed from someones pack or lunch. Good job Golden! One of the many reasons I am proud to live here!

Entry: Every winter in the wetlands, just south of Golden, the elk gather in herds to feed on the fertile sloughs. This is one of life's great pleasures of living in the our part of the B.C. Mountains. On January 21st the torch will reach our town and start its journey southward. It will not only be human who will think it is a great day, when the torch past though, these elk will be waiting and watching as well.
