Entry: Pinnacles Provincial Park is located 8km west of Quesnel, about a 10 minute drive via Pinnacles Road off Cariboo Hwy 97. The park is comprised of 124 hectares of pine forests and unique rock formations known as hoodoos. These geological rock formations are over 12 million years old. To view the hoodoos there is a well maintained trail, about 1km long, to the viewpoint.
The park is a popular day-use area. Offering excellent views of the scenic Baker Creek Canyon with the city as a backdrop, it also has 30 picnic sites, pit washrooms, hiking and mountain bike trails and is open throughout the year for day-use and sightseeing.

Spend a day at the beach at Puntchesakut Lake Provincial Park.

Entry: Puntchesakut Lake Provincial Park is located approximately 40km west of Quesnel. It can be accessed via Nazko Road (well maintained and paved) and is about a 25 minute drive from Quesnel. Located on the east side of Puntchesakut Lake, the park offers 1200 meters of waterfront, including a beautiful stretch of sandy beach. The park supports a number of lake-oriented activities including swimming, canoeing, boating, fishing and waterskiing. Fishing is the most popular activity on the lake and can be done throughout the year. The lake supports a wide variety of fish species, most notably, rocky mountain whitefish and rainbow trout.
The park is complete with a boat launch, picnic areas, washroom facilities and drinking water making it a destination for the entire family.

Celebrate the Cariboo’s Scottish and Celtic Heritage.

Entry: Enjoy a fun filled weekend of music, dancing, games and competition at the annual Cariboo Highland Games. With such activities as a Tug-O-War, Frying Pan Toss and Truck Pull this event is not for the faint of heart, and is truly a fun, family celebration. The festivities begin on Friday evening with the Braveheart Challenge Trivia Contest and continue on into Saturday with games, music, dancing and athletics, plus a Ceilidh. Bring the family and be prepared to participate!

Entry: Discover the Cariboo through the stories of our pioneers. Join a group from the Quesnel and District Museum and Archives for a tour of the Quesnel Pioneer Cemetery. The Cemetery is located adjacent to LeBourdais Park along Carson Ave. in downtown Quesnel. It is one of two cemeteries in Quesnel, owned and operated by the city, serving the community for more than 90years. The oldest recorded headstone is May 10, 1878 but burials were made here as early as the 1860’s.
Just a few steps from the Museum and Visitor Information Center this cemetery will take you back in time to another era and into the lives of the men, women and children of Quesnel's past.

The Prospectors Car Club Show and Shine in August is the place to be.

Entry: The Prospectors Car Club was started in Quesnel in 1997 to promote interest in classic and modified cars, trucks and motorcycles. From a charter membership of six, the club has grown to about 70 members today. Vehicle ownership is not a prerequisite for membership; you only need a love for cars to be welcome.
Each year the Club hosts the Gold Pan Steak-out on the second weekend in August. This event takes place over three days beginning with registration on Friday evening at the Kersley Community Hall, which is about 10 minutes south of the city. Saturday includes final registration, the rod run and the poker run and evening activities including the famous steak dinner, a fund raising auction and a dance. On Sunday morning everyone moves to the downtown streets of Quesnel for the annual Show and Shine that runs from 10am to 3pm, followed by awards presentations and goodbyes for the weekend.

Entry: Located at 3028 Red Bluff Road, Richbar Nursery is home to a golf course, a garden centre and a nursery. The course is a nine-hole executive course with many challenges common to a championship course. It plays as a par 33 at about 2400 yards from the blue tees and offers golfing for the entire family. Entry: Alex Fraser Park, south of Quesnel on North Star Road, is home to the Quesnel Fall Fair, Pony Club, Roping Club, Riding Club, Quesnel Barrel Racers, 4H, Fur and Feather, and the like. Visitors are welcome to come and watch practices for many of the clubs that use the arena. Some events that the park has hosted are the RCMP Musical Ride and police dog demonstrations, Agricultural Auctions and the Gold Rush Dog Sled Mail Run, to name a few.
Park facilities include; heated indoor arena, outdoor arena, livestock ring, practice pens exhibition buildings, grandstands for 2000 people, bleachers, beer garden facilities, rental facilities for livestock (pens & stalls), and lots of green space. The park as a whole is available for rent or you can rent any individual facility to accommodate your particular needs. Information on pre-booked functions such as rodeos, the Fall Fair, club gatherings or any other event can be found on the Alex Fraser Park Society’s official web site or at the Visitors Centre.

17th Annual Gold Rush Sled Dog Mail Run

Entry: As twenty bags of mail holding 2700 envelopes were distributed to the official mail carriers, Friday started the send-off of the sled teams. It would be a three-day trip starting from Umiti Pit through to Wells. With many teams varying in age, and from outside the Quesnel area, it would be a spectacular trip. Though cold weather would follow them during the nights, the teams had so much spirit that they prevailed along with their dogs, and completed the trip. There was a great deal of enthusiastic support from the general public this year.

Entry: West Fraser Timber Park is the newest and largest of Quesnel’s city parks. It is located west of Johnson Subdivision at the base of Plywood Hill. The park is used throughout the year; it houses four softball diamonds, one baseball diamond, a playground, a lawn bowling facility, the Nature Education Centre, four tennis courts, a heritage garden, a duck pond and a system of hiking trails. Winter activities include ice skating on the pond and cross country skiing and snowshoeing on the trails. The Baker Creek Enhancement Centre is also open throughout the year. Operating hours are Monday to Friday 8:30-3:30 or by appointment. Visitors are welcome any time the door is open.

Entry: June 24, 2008: To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the crown colony of British Columbia, Quesnel is celebrating B.C.’s first completed Spirit Square.
“It is very exciting to be here to see the completion of the Province’s first Spirit Square, the first of many to be finished and opened this year, celebrating our province’s 150th anniversary, and reinforcing the special spirit that defines our cities, towns and villages,” said Premier Campbell, who attended the grand opening June 24. “This square is a place for Quesnel to showcase its community strengths and achievements, and a centre for people to meet, to celebrate, and to connect with one another.”
