Water Park and Playground

Entry: After you’ve settled in at your favourite picnic table, enjoy, and watch the kids splash around at the water park. The water park is turned on early mornings and runs until dusk, and depending on the seasons, opens from June until September. LeBourdais Park also has a wonderful playground, big open grass areas, little league baseball diamond and an outdoor stage; the perfect place for kids of all ages to burn off some energy and for the community to hold events. LeBourdais Park holds some of Quesnel's largest community events: Relay for Life, Family Day, Billy Barker Day events, Highland Games, Aboriginal Day, Kids Day, community rallys, concerts and much more.

8. Cross the world’s longest wood truss footbridge, built in 1929 to cross the Fraser River and used by traffic until 1972.

Entry: The entry points to the bridge are located where Carson Ave. and Front Street intersect in downtown Quesnel, and on North Fraser Drive in West Quesnel. The eastern side of the bridge is located in downtown Quesnel and the western side of the bridge is located in West Quesnel. Prior to the completion of the Fraser River Walking Bridge in 1929, travel across the Fraser River was made by cable ferry. It was the first bridge to span the Fraser River in Quesnel and remained the only bridge until 1971, open to single lane traffic that included automobiles, semi-tractor trailers, livestock and pedestrians. Today it is used only as a pedestrian bridge and is believed to be the longest wooden Howe Truss Bridge still in use.

Entry: Located in the Arts and Recreation Centre, the Artrium features more than thirty permanent original works of art, including original pieces by Jack Reid, Alessandra Bitelli, Brian Atyeo, Mike Svob and others. Within the Artrium is an art gallery and a gift shop. The Quesnel Art Gallery is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. The gift shop offers a selection of original, local artwork including paintings, pottery, books, jewellery and more.

Historical artefacts are displayed here as a reminder of the people and industries that shaped the development of the city. Browse Cariboo Keepsakes for souvenirs and locally made crafts. This gift store is located at 102 Carson Street in the Old Hudson’s Bay Company Building. This historic building was first built in 1866 and in 1985 officially became a municipal historic site.

Raptor Ridge and Moose Meadows Farm

Entry: Raptor Ridge Campsite is located at 2683 Norwood Road, which is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Quesnel. They offer snowshoeing with quite a few packed trails and 'breaking trail' is always welcome. When you arrive at the campsite sign in at the Possum Lodge. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic lunch or build a campfire to have a hot dog roast after a long day of outdoor winter activities.
After lunch enjoy a visit to the Antler Shed Gift Shop at Moose Meadows Farm. Moose Meadows Farm is located at 2861 Nazko Road. The gift shop offers only Canadian items (mostly local) including products produced from the farm itself. Wild syrups and jellies, coffee, locally crafted home decor items, flavoured honey and homemade soaps are some of the items found at this small but lovely store.

Entry: Troll Ski Resort is 45km east of Quesnel on the Barkerville Hwy. This local mountain offers excellent views of the valley and bright sunny skiing. The family owned and operated resort offers four surface lifts and 1700 vertical feet of terrain. While most of the runs are for intermediate skiers, there is great teaching/beginner area and black diamond runs as well. Other features of the resort include; one of the largest Terrain Parks in the North, ski and snowboard camps and lessons for all ages, and a rustic log style lodge with a big cozy fireplace to warm up by.
Troll Ski Resort boasts long runs, no lift lines and lots of space to carve your turns.

World class fishing at Dragon Lake.

Entry: Just minutes south of Quesnel lays Dragon Lake, known for its trophy sized Rainbow Trout fishing. Accessible via Quesnel Hydraulic Road and Dragon Lake Road it is an easy drive for any vehicle. Both roads are just off Hwy 97 and join together to form access around the east side of the lake. There are two boat launches for public usage; one is located on the east side and the other at Legion beach on the north side of the lake. Fishing is available on Dragon Lake throughout the year. All methods of fishing work well, however, the lake is considered a fly fisher’s dream.
Other lake activities include water skiing, boating, ice skating, hockey and snowmobiling. Dragon Lake is truly and outdoor playground all year-round.

Entry: Blackwater Canyon is located west of Quesnel. Follow signs to Bouchie Lake and take a right on North Fraser Drive which turns into Blackwater Road. Follow Blackwater Road for 60km at which point you will find the Blackwater River Bridge and a forestry campsite. From here there is a trail that leads you along the Blackwater River, following the Blackwater Canyon to the canyon rim – and several viewpoints and picnic sites. This is an excellent, intermediate to advanced, 2km hike and takes about an hour to complete.

Saturday at the Market

Entry: Every Saturday from May until early October, the Quesnel Farmer’s Market opens, offering fresh locally grown produce and other products from local crafters, ranchers, farmers and bakers. It can be found downtown Quesnel at the Helen Dixon Center grounds, corner of Kinchant Street and Carson Avenue.
The Quesnel Farmers’ Market hosts an average of about 25 vendors each week, with some late spring markets peaking at 35 vendors. Every market day offers a fabulous assortment of fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit, preserves and baking as well as crafts, homemade ready-to-eat treats and, often, live entertainment.
