A Great Place to Live!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: I can't believe that I have lived in Quesnel for almost 40 years! This is a great place to live - to raise children, have a home, own a business. The residents of Quesnel are generous - both with their time in volunteering and with their fortunes in donating to Good Cheer, Salvation Army, etc.
This provides a great background for raising children and teaching them values!

Lucky to have the Yorston Corn Maze
Date: Dec 31, 2009
Entry: Our family traditions are centred around trips to the Yorston farm and their annual corn maze. One of Quesnel's best kept secrets, the Yorston property hosts thousands of school trips and visits from the general public as well as their famous Haunted Corn Maze at Halloween. Unassuming from the highway, a small dirt road leads down into a bucolic setting where cattle wander free and the hosts are always gracious, unassuming and unobtrusive. Thank you Yorston family for sharing your piece of heaven.

My Chosen Home, Quesnel
Date: Dec 30, 2009
Entry: British Columbia is the best province to live in....and Quesnel is the best city to call home. In 1948 I moved with my parents from England to Burnaby, while friends of ours made the same move to Quesnel.
They never ceased to rave about Quesnel. I decided once I had my teaching certificate (in 1960) that I would come to Quesnel for a couple of years to see if it was as great as they said . They are now long gone ....... but I am still here. I met my husband here; we raised our family of 3 here, & I taught in the Quesnel school system for nearly 40 years. Now, as a retiree, neither my husband nor I have any desire to move. We have many friends here, especially within our church family (St. Andrew's United). I have found Quesnel to be a friendly town right from when I first arrived. Summers are great; when winter temperatures are around -10, with snow sparkling in the sun, that, too, is great, although my preference is to look at it from inside a nice warm house. For activities & facilities, there is nothing that Quesnel lacks, especially now with the college, & soon to be Arts & Recreation centre. Quesnel is vibrant, & I am happy to call it home.

A Great Place to Grow Up!!!!!
Date: Dec 30, 2009
Entry: Every year in Quesnel, there are dozens of opportunities to participate in well-organized events raising much-needed funds for disease research and treatment. These are always fun-filled days and the perfect opportunity to get together as a community and recognize our close personal bond. Being a part of these events brings our community closer together, achieving a common better goal and makes our town into the friendly place it is - where everyone is greeted with a friendly nod of the head, a heartfelt hello and that niggling feeling that you all know each other "from somewhere". Quesnel is the best place to live - 2010 and always.

Fabulous Quesnel!!
Date: Dec 29, 2009
Entry: We are blessed to live on one of the prettiest lakes in Northern B.C. Every season brings new delights, from new born ducklings, to tubing in the summertime, golden reds and fishing in Autumn and lots of ice skating, snowmobiling and ice fishing in the Winter. There's never a moment without something to do outside - walking along our beautiful Riverwalk or enjoying Dragon Lake and Ten Mile Lake. The activity continues on at one of our busiest indoor venues - the Twin Arenas, home to dedicated curlers, an outstanding Figure Skating Club, multi-tiered hockey teams and our own Millionaires. It is fabulous living in Quesnel.

Mushers - Dogs and Athletes Working Together
Date: Dec 28, 2009
Entry: On Sunday, December 27, the local group of dog sledders got together for a fun day of a mini-race and "musher sports". The youngest racer was 11 years old with a team of 6 dogs. The oldest racer wouldn't tell his age. The fastest racer was a young lady who completed the circuit in about 35 minutes. Put another way, her and her dogs were travelling at about 30 km/hr.
The musher sports involve an egg and spoon race - the trick is that the person holding the egg and spoon was travelling backwards on a snowmobile. There was also the breakfast race - start a fire, make tea. Some teams were also making bannock - it was delicious!
The dogs were in great shape and as usual, everyone had a great time. Can't wait for the big event in January - the Dog Sled Mail Run Race.

Foodies Enjoy Accessible Farmers Market
Date: Dec 28, 2009
Entry: With fresh, local everything the Quesnel Farmers Market is an amazing market. Operating outdoors from May to October with special indoor markets during the winter, this market is working with the community and the farmers to build one of the best markets.
A key to the market is that it remain accessible. The outdoor site is completely wheelchair accessible with great parking and the indoor markets are ramped and accessible. This year the market built it's own stage and put in more power outlets so that farmers can provide a wider range of products and maintain a food safe environment.

Quesnel is home by choice

Quesnel was a great place to raise kids, and it's proving to be a great place to be retired. It's my home by choice now.

Ice Fishing in Quesnel
Date: Dec 20, 2009
Entry: In true Cariboo fashion, when the ice is deep enough, you go fishing. Today it was about -8 out with more snow coming. But in the morning it was time to ice fish. We have many amazing local lakes for fishing - today we were at Bouchie Lake in Quesnel. Dug about 4 holes with the ice augers, set up the tent but spent most of the time outside. Didn't catch a thing. But the guy beside us caught a very nice trout - probably about 3 lbs.
Ice Fishing is just another great outdoor activity that can be enjoyed at one of what seems like hundreds of lakes in our region. Being able to snowmobile to and from the lake just adds to the pleasure of the day.
Quesnel - any time, any day, any activity.

The Great Outdoors!
Date: Dec 17, 2009
Entry: Quesnel has some of the best outdoor recreation that isnt crowded and to just get away from it all. There is a lot of recreational activities to do around here.
There is a great variety of lakes ,rivers, creeks for the outdoor adventures and great camping.
Swimming, boating, and tubing down the ole Cottonwood River on a hot sunny day are some of the things i love to do in this area.
