Proud to be Canadian and proud of our small town!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: When I ran my first marathon, I had a Canadian maple leaf on my hat. When my daughter was two she was shouting "Go Canada!" right beside me when Simon Whitfield pulled into the front of the pack at the Olympic triathlon in 2000 in Sydney, Australia and now both my kids are there beside me cheering for Canada. I have a Canadian flag tattoo. I love Canada and so do my kids. We are very proudly Canadian and that pride is also for our smalltown! Princeton is a smalltown full of people with big hearts and big dreams. We don't give up when the going gets tough, we dig in our heels. CBC radio may have given Kamloops and Prince George special attention last week, but Princeton is not giving in. We are the underdogs that don't quit. Go Princeton! Gamestown 2010.

Shredding 'n cruising
Date: Jan 3, 2010
Entry: It doesn't matter who you are or how much money your parents make, if you go to school at Vermilion Forks Elementary, every student has an equal opportunity to try their hand at skiing or snowboarding including a lesson if needed. The staff at VFE aspire to have active kids trying all kinds of sports and are there to help make that happen. Some of the students who go on the field trips to the pre-planned ski resort have never skiied or snowboarded before and others are continuing to advance in a sport they already love. Apex Mountain works to make the day affordable for every student along with VFE. Those students who still don't have enough funds to go still go courtesy of VFE. It is a wonderful couple of trips each year that the school makes to Apex. The staff and students come home tired, but happy.

Not just a business...
Date: Jan 2, 2010
Entry: In town, we have a great little restaurant called the Brown Derby Cafe. The Brown Derby is known for it's menu items made with locally grown and/or raised food, seasonal favorites (great peach pie!), and an atmosphere that is like no other. Behind the scenes, the owners quietly help where they can - community dinners, free family events, seniors get togethers - they are always willing to help out. Even on Canada Day, where the chef willing sat in the dunk tank to help raise funds for free family events! Thanks Brown Derby.

Princeton, a town of memories
Date: Jan 2, 2010
Entry: Our family was never so involved with a community and involved in extracurricular activities as it was when we resided in Princeton. Although we left the area 12 years ago, we have never forgotten and we are forever grateful for having been a part of this community. Of the other places we have traveled and lived, none can match the vast opportunities/venues/environment for sporting and exercise that Princeton has always offered. Our children were raised in Princeton, and this automatically meant that they were raised to be active and energetic. Walking; running; hiking; fishing; hunting; snowmobiling; four-wheeling; camping; snow/water skiing; bowling; softball; baseball; hockey; figure skating; competitive swimming; river/lake swimming; basketball; volleyball; soccer; cycling/racing; skateboarding; curling;karate; track and field...these activities and sports are only examples of what my family took part in, while we lived in Princeton. The four seasons that Princeton enjoys does allow for the variety but I shake my head in wonder that such a small community could sustain the neverending list of activities and provide them at such affordable rates that allow every family to be active. I am thankful to Princeton and to the wonderful people that continue to reside in what I will always be proud to call "my home town."

A caring community
Date: Dec 31, 2009
Entry: Princeton - a caring community. A town that through the years has always met the needs of travelers who for many reasons are stranded on the Crowsnest Highway 3. People such as our Crisis Assistance Society, doctors, service stations, food bank, Lions and Rotary clubs, Search and Rescue, churches, and others help those in need, and I can think of some people who were helped and stayed to became residents. I'm proud to be a resident of Princeton.

Winter Night
Date: Dec 31, 2009
Entry: We gathered at the top of Baldy Mountain on a winter's night. The sky was deep and black and stars shone brilliantly reflecting onto the ice and snow surface we stood on. We were suspended between two worlds, both seemingly uninhabitable. Some of us shook with cold while others drank hot cocoa from thermoses. Our breath froze in mid-air as we spoke and breathed. We released our skis from the car racks and laced our boots on. The great full moon sat just on the edge of the mountain about to emerge from it's hiding. It was at this moment that the howling of coyotes sang across the hills. It seemed as if hundreds of them called to each other in a ritualistic howling at the rising moon. We were not alone.
In silent communication we travelled uphill on our cross-country skis and moved in a single line between the white-barked Aspen and dark pines. The trail was ancient, probably carved out by hundreds of years of deer moving into the higher mountains and returning to the valley rivers in spring. Then it was lumber trucks ploughing open roads while removing pine trees for the mill. We skied on mile after mile in a world that seemed to shine on us. The moon fully illuminated our journey and we exalted in the beauty and serenity of the natural world that holds Princeton in it's embrace. We skied into the ice and snow cathedral with the great moon warming our souls. This is part of the world Princeton people live in. None of us returned home the same after that night of skiing. In our hearts we held something sacred transferred through the beauty of the natural world; this needs to be preserved and protected for all.
