Sports Day
Date: Aug 4, 2009
Entry: Both elementary schools think Sports Day plays an important part in community spirit and athleticism. Participation is huge and the staff works hard to keep the children entertained. The day always turns out to be a lot of fun and is a highlight of the year end wind down. Healthy living begins with a good example from the teachers and active days.

Seniors Making a Difference
Date: Aug 4, 2009
Entry: The Senior Center in Princeton is celebrating their 20th anniversary in their present building. They held an Open House Luncheon for all who wished to attend. Many of the seniors brought in their arts and crafts to showcase at the event. From beautiful quilts to paintings and woodwork the Senior Center was full of wonderful handcrafted items for everyone to admire. The Princeton Seniors show locals that getting older does not mean you quit being an integral part of our town with their continual community support and volunteerism. Their Open House was just one more way they give back and show us talent and hard work still go hand in hand.

A Full House
Date: Jul 29, 2009
Entry: Every once in a while a person comes across something that is greater than any one individual is on their own. When she heard through her partner that M Africa was travelling through Princeton on their way through to Nelson she got on the phone and stayed on the phone with M and the Town of Princeton until she had found a venue for them to perform in and M had been persuaded to make an extra stop along the way. The concert was confirmed on short notice. Everyone in the community started sending out emails. Organizers were worried. Would there be enough people to make it worth M's while? The M Africa group come from impoverished families in Africa and use the money from their tour to ,not only help out their families, but to educate and help their fellow people fight the spread of AIDS. The sang like Nightingales to a full house. Princeton was honoured to have them and once again the community pulled off a great night of entertainment with little time to prepare. The people of Princeton don't like the word "no" and work hard to turn "no" into "yes" whenever possible.

For the Love of the Game
Date: Jul 28, 2009
Entry: A passion for football made one local youth football coach go that extra mile. The coach contacted the B.C. Lion's Community Relations Coordinator, (ex-B.C. Lion's kicker), L, and pulled off an amazing day for local youth and adult football fans alike. Seven CFL players made the trip to Princeton to run a "Practise with the Pros" day. Over 70 kids attended the event and learned lots of new tricks of the football game and had tons of fun. The CFL player were astounded by the number of locals youth who came out for the one day camp. Many larger communities can't bring in those kinds of numbers. All in all, it was a day those in attendance won't forget any time soon.

Fresh Air 10,000 Feet Up
Date: Jul 27, 2009
Entry: Princeton has so many things to do it is hard to keep up. When the Airshow was in town, the Canadian Forces special skydiving unit 'The Skyhawks' were here to perform mid-air acrobats. Some lucky people even got to go skydiving. Free falling for 5000 feet at 110 miles per hour is hard to explain. It took 30 seconds, but once the parachute was out the view was spectacular.

Fire Suppression goes green in their "down time"
Date: Jul 24, 2009
Entry: The Fire Suppression Crew that has been deployed in Princeton for the summer never spends much time sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. They have been out helping some of the clubs with their strong work ethic and good values. First, the crew spent weeks cutting up Pine Beetle kill trees for the China Ridge Cross Country Ski Association to keep their new clubhouse warm next winter and they have been busy clearing trails for them, as well. The support they have given the club is huge. Next this energetic bunch spent a few days helping the community garden out. They dug perimeter trenches and installed underground fencing to keep the marmots out, lay landscape fabric, spread bark mulch on top and built some more plots for the club. The crew only asked for one thing in return - next year they would like a plot of their own to grow some of their own fresh vegetables to eat at camp...and with the way they work I am sure they go through a lot of food!

First ever Special O Regional Bocce Gold!!
Date: Jul 23, 2009
Entry: Two years ago, the employees that work with our Special Needs adults decided to ask the group if they would like to become a part of the Special "O" Team for their Region. The group was quick to answer "yes." They have been learning all sorts of new skills since. Last year was the first season the group played bocce together. The team was good enough to make it to the Regionals in Abbotsford and not only did they make it they won gold in bocce. It was the first ever Bocce gold as bocce was a demonstration sport this year. Princeton is proud of our athletes.

A bit of Olympic Hollywood
Date: Jul 21, 2009
Entry: What do a stuffed beaver, a German film crew, a logger and the 2010 Olympics have in common? While the question might seem unusual, it has an interesting answer. Princeton was the target for some Olympic spin-off when a German production company came calling. Owner and operator of Cascade Contract Falling Ltd. was contracted to fall trees so they appeared have been chewed down and fell in the 5 rings of the Olympic symbol after an industrious Canadian beaver went to work. J and E were contracted to clear a lake and then, replace all the snow again afterward. The fun Olympic themed commercials for German television were all shot in a provincial park near Princeton and included skating, skiing, biathlon skiing, hockey, curling and snowboarding. There were 5 uniquely Canadian flavoured promotional Olympic commercials shot in all. Princeton was proud to take part.

It's a bird!
Date: Jul 21, 2009
Entry: Princeton folk are always searching for ways to bring tourism dollars into our community. A few years ago, some energetic members decided to try and bring an Airshow here. A lot of hard work and brainstorming later, Princeton had their 2nd annual Airshow and it was a great success. The volunteers went above and beyond their assigned limits and were friendly and helpful in every sense of the word. The whole experience was one of pure enjoyment.

The British are coming!
Date: Jul 17, 2009
Entry: The Princeton Sports, Recreation and Culture Department has been working hard to run a Summer Program that has a little bit of something for everyone. For the last two summers they have brought in the British Challenger Soccer Camp. This year a soccer player came over from England to teach the Princeton kids and they had a fantastic time. The kids couldn't stop smiling and they learned so much about soccer to take home with them. All in all, it was another way Princeton kids are staying healthy with the help of a community that cares.

Princeton gets ready to celebrate
Date: Jul 17, 2009
Entry: Many volunteers from all over the community from all kinds of clubs have united together to form the 150 Committee. It is to prepare for the year long celebration of Princeton's 150th birthday. The committee has been working hard to come up with some significant historical and celebratory ideas to incorporate into a meaningful party for the residents. The community doesn't just want to have a party - they want to leave behind a legacy for future generations to see and enjoy. The committee is considering finding grant money to paint historical murals and depict real photos onto some of the buildings, as well as, having a symphony play on the labour day weekend with tons of activities throughout the day including a tour of some of the historically significant sites. One of the original settlers in the valley who documented much of the early history of the area, is being honoured at the same time with a plaque from the Ministry of Environment as "A Person of National Historical Significance." The community is one of the oldest in BC and one of the proudest. The many volunteer groups make our town not just old, but wonderful.

First in the Fraser Nicola
Date: Jul 7, 2009
Entry: It started as a thought that grew into an idea that grew into a garden. A local teacher wanted her students to learn how to eat better and she thought the best way to do that was through a garden. She brought her idea to some of the parents and the school and after many months of grant applications, back breaking volunteer labour, some input from local gardening experts and some love and patience from the students and really the whole community, Princeton proudly showed their real live John Allison School Community Garden to the school board, all the generous donators and the community. The children sang and proudly showed off their hard work. The John Allison School Community Garden is the first of its kind in the Fraser Nicola Region.

Creativity at every turn
Date: Jul 2, 2009
Entry: Not only are the many local artists in our small community very talented, but they are, also, very creative.
