Recreation exploding in Princeton
Date: Sep 28, 2009
Entry: The China Ridge Cross Country Ski Association (CRCCSA) was approached by some avid local mountain bikers looking for trails. One thing led to another and the CRCCSA got busy applying for grants. Soon the provincial government stepped up to the plate and the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and the Arts rewarded the CRCCSA efforts with a grant in the amount of $53,000. The CRCCSA has added more signage and trail markers, re-roofed the back-country cabin, repaired the back-country cabin, re-roofed 14 kiosks, built 3 new mapping kiosks, built a woodshed, widened and improved some of the existing trails, checked trails for dangerous trees, added picnic tables, installed 3 gates and built an equipment shed and warming hut. They have upgraded their safety and survival equipment, started a youth cross-country ski program and hired a Whistler mountain biking trail expert to build a new trail for the club. Their efforts are impressive and prove that if you are united you can accomplish just about anything. Recently, another $53,000 was awarded to the group from the federal government through the National Trails Coalition. D.M. is in Princeton using his expertise as both a trail builder and trail rider to give Princeton a top-notch mountain biking trail. Mountain bikers are going to get itchy fingers long before spring arrives, but not to worry, thanks to CRCCSA there are lots of cross-country ski trails to help keep the outdoors a fun place to be.

Our Mother Theresa
Date: Sep 25, 2009
Entry: How many towns can boast their own Mother Theresa. Princeton's Mother Theresa has been a mother of mercy for ever so long. Over 35 years ago Joyce Fraser created Community Services, an organization that helps care for the handicapped, seniors and those with accessability difficulties and eventually the BC Transit Service that is open to all members of the community who need transportation. J.F. set up a program of residency and employment for mentally handicapped people that still exists today, the lucky participants went from possible placement in institutions to living a fulfilling life while living in their own Mary Ann Apartments and operating the Mini Chef Restaurant. Not content with that Joyce Fraser envisioned and helped to create Vermillion Court, an assisted living center for seniors that allowed them to live independent lives with some assistance. We in Princeton are very, very proud of Joyce Fraser, for whenever she identified a need she found a solution.

Bridge of Dreams
Date: Sep 24, 2009
Entry:
The Bridge of Dreams was the name given to the original train bridge built over the Tulameen River at Princeton by the construction workers. It was built in the spring of 1915 and was the last bridge built on the Kettle Valley Railway. The last spike driven in the famous Kettle Valley Railroad was 200 yards down the Trans Canada Trail at what is now the Roundhouse. What you see here is the placement of one half of the new Bridge of Dreams which will remove the last detour of the Trail in Princeton's section and 94 years later once again complete the Kettle Valley Railbed's Trans Canada Trail.

Riding in Style
Date: Sep 24, 2009
Entry:
In a small town like Princeton, being able to keep a Junior "B" Hockey team financially viable takes alot of effort. The Princeton Posse is a community owned team that survives as a result of many people in the community including volunteers, sponsors and ticket holders. When a new group of volunteers took over as the new executive they pinpointed the major cost as transportation. So with the help of the Community Forest Corporation they got a great deal on a bus from Charter Bus Lines and now transportation costs have been greatly reduced and the Posse is riding in style.
