Pride in our own
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry: I've been reading the many wonderful comments made about all of the communities. I think it is absolutely beautiful at the amount of pride all the individuals have in their homes, their communities - what an amazing way to see people from all over come together! We are all winners, for this reason alone.
However, I'd like to share why I believe my hometown Princeton, deserves the title of Gamestown 2010.
Although small, Princeton is a community that is largest - in heart. I have lived in other towns, even cities - and always came home. I have never experienced the sense of community like that of Princeton, anywhere else. Whether it be a happy event or a sad event, this community binds together. We fight hard for what we believe in. We play hard and we work hard. Volunteers are the backbone of our many great accomplishments - our residents joining forces to make good things happen. If you live here and need a hand, most times you'll get help without even asking. If you are travelling through and need help, it's there without question. If you leave, we support your endevours, and when you come home, you are welcomed with open arms. We love and take pride in our clean air, the beauty and endless outdoor recreation possiblilities of our area and of course-hockey! We are B.C.'s best kept secret, (although no longer a secret) and we are proud to support our Olympic Volunteers!

Life in Princeton really does have it all!
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry:
We have Nature at our doorstep, activities as varied as each person who lives here, fresh air and clean water. One of the greatest benefits I have received from living here is watching my children grow up in a healthy community with access to many reasonably priced, (if not free), activities.
Canoeing, fishing and camping are regular outings for us in the summer. And of course gardening "...good for clearing your head", as my friend Benny says. Not to mention the benefits of eating fresh, organic food we grow ourselves! My resolution this year is to take more time to appreciate where we live, to experience a few more of the activities available in Princeton, and to not take where I live for granted!
Life in Princeton really does have it all!

Princeton is rich in history, culture, story and community.
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry: When you think about your hometown many things come to mind friends, family, home, comfort visions of growing up and thoughts of the future. Princeton is my hometown. I was born in Princeton, my father, grandfather, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother and even her mother were from Princeton before Princeton was a European settlement. Now I have a son and he is going to grow up on the same family farm that I grew up on and my father and grandfather grew up on. Princeton is our home.
When you are young there is something that makes you want to spread your wings and move away but it is never the same so moving back to Princeton to raise my family was not just something to do it was natural.
To live in Princeton you need to love the outdoors, you need to love an active way of life. We do not have the amenities that the cities like Kelowna or Kamloops have. We do not have the “arts and culture” that Vancouver has but we do have a lot. We have our museum that tells our story; we have our little books store, our library, our new Wellness Centre that houses our community theatre group, our painters, potters, musicians and other artisans. We may not have an Olympic swimming pool but we have our centennial pool where our dedicated staff of lifeguards who teach our children how to swim. We have our rivers the Similkameen and Tulameen where we spend our summers when not fishing on one of our countless lakes and streams.
We may not have the things that the cities have, we have more. We have Alpine meadows to hike in or the cross country ski trails of China Ridge to ski on. We have the Swan Lake conservation area to hike around and learn about the natural world around us. We have mountains to climb, trails to hike, rivers, lakes and streams to swim and fish in. Princeton is paradise.
Princeton is rich in history, culture, story and community. This is my home.
