Hoop dancers
Date: Oct 31, 2009
Entry: Both local elementary schools like to give their students a chance to see life through many cultures. That is why they had hoop dancers come and give a special performance for the children. Beautiful costumes and ancient music told stories about a native people with deep historical significance. The deer hide drums beat to a sound from the Native souls. The students were drawn into the talented display and allowed to dance to some of the songs. It was an incredible experience for all who attended.

Cleaning Up our Mess
Date: Oct 31, 2009
Entry:
In Princeton the mountain pine beetle has brought widespread mayhem to our forest, it has created a number of problems such as dangers from falling dead trees and wildfire possibilities. Luckily people in our town look after each other, in order that a forest fire dosen't endanger our town and that local outdoor recreation activities aren't threatened by falling treees, a local company was found that could remove that problem. Princeton also benefits from the fact that we have a fairly varied species of timber and our percentage of pine is lower than many northern communities. We may be in the middle of a mess but you can be assured we have the community that will clean it up.

Students, teachers & principal support fellow student with cancer
Date: Oct 28, 2009
Entry: In 2007 my 14 year old son was diagnosed with cancer and was sent to BC Children's Hospital. I moved to the coast to be with him while my husband and 7 year old son stayed in Princeton. Though miles away, the outpouring of concern and support from the community of Princeton and especially the students and staff of Princeton Secondary School reached us. The student body of PSS organized a fundraiser in which almost 20 students and teachers, including the principal, shaved their heads. While the financial support was a godsend at that time, even more wonderful was how very touched we were by this huge gesture of support. My husband attended the event at the high school and when he described it to me later on the phone I was deeply moved and cried. My son who was undergoing chemotherapy at the time kept on saying, "Wow. I can't believe they did that for me. Wow." Needless to say, he was also very moved.
At a time of great crisis, being the recipient of such an outpouring of love and support is an amazing feeling. My son and our whole family felt it and are so thankful to the community and especially the students and staff of PSS. Princeton Secondary School deserves to be THE Spirit School of 2010!

Mischief makers
Date: Oct 27, 2009
Entry: Princeton has a lot of people who enjoy a good laugh now and again. This is where our mischief makers come in. Our local historical wooden bridge seems to be decorated with the odd large ornament every so often. The last ornament was the skeletal remains of a motorcycle. Everyone took a second look at the bridge before crossing that morning and it gave everyone something to chuckle about on their way to work.

Signs for a job turn into much more
Date: Oct 27, 2009
Entry: Local business owner EM was hired to make signs for the Spirit of BC Day at China Ridge. The group wanted the signs to appeal to kids and local mascot Peter Pine was suggested to be the model. An artist was hired to design the activity signs and they turned out great. They were a big hit and soon the idea of a colouring book sprung into the head of EM and he enlisted local artist LM again. The colouring book is done and shows Peter Pine participating in many activities locals do. There are maps and historical sites in the book. The colouring book is more that a colouring book. It highlights the fun one can have in Princeton through Peter Pine.

Hospital Auxiliary donates $25,000
Date: Oct 26, 2009
Entry: The Princeton Hospital Auxiliary donated $25,000 to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation towards the purchase of a new CT Scanner at the Penticton Regional Hospital. THe CT Scanner helps residents of Summerland, Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos, Okanagan Falls, Keremeos, Cawston and Princeton get the medical testing they need. The current machine is old and does up to 50 scans per day, seven days per week. The new machine is faster, does more and is much more precise. The Princeton Hospital Auxiliary makes several incredible donations per year to worthy causes like this. They are making a difference and their volunteerism is not going unnoticed.
