Heritage Trails to be celebrated....
Date: Nov 6, 2009
Entry: In 2010, Princeton will be turning 150 years old and is one of British Columbia’s oldest towns.
The Princeton150 Committee is busy organizing year long events that will honour our past and celebrate the present. One of these events will see hikers and horseback riders travel two of the original routes of the gold rush. The Dewdney Trail was built in 1860 and was the first contracted trail in the new colony of British Columbia. The other was the Hope Pass Trail, built in 1861, and was used by wagons and horses carrying goods to the interior from the coast for over forty years.
These historical trails gave way to many settlements and developments in the eastern part of the province.
Crews have been busy on the ground clearing and preparing the trails for the celebrations planned for next summer.

It's a bird
Date: Nov 4, 2009
Entry: Princeton had a family here that has become a big part of our history. Pop Irwin was instrumental in two big projects in our community. He helped to build Princeton's first hospital and he was a crucial component in the creation in our first ski hill. Amber Ski Hill became world class in its heyday and held the the Western Canadian Ski Championships. The Irwin's had two sons Bill and Bert who went on to the Winter Olympics in St. Moritz Switzerland and a daughter Ethel who was a serious competitor. They were all multi-talented doing slalom, jumps and cross-country.

Jumping in to help
Date: Nov 4, 2009
Entry: Last week a logging truck trailer came apart in the middle of a sharp turn. Traffic was blocked and the wait to get the load back on where it was supposed to be took four hours. Before the police could even arrive, two local residents stopped what they were doing that day and jumped in to help. Soon they were directing traffic and keeping the roadway safe so no one else would get hurt and so traffic could keep moving. This is the way people are in Princeton. If someone needs help, there is always someone willing to jump in.

Fingers and toes are crossed
Date: Nov 3, 2009
Entry: These kids have their fingers and toes crossed in hope that Princeton wins Gamestown 2010, so that they have somewhere to swim in the winter too. A indoor pool would be a great addition. The swim club has to drive out of town to remain competitive after the outdoor pool closes for the season and so do the kids looking for some winter time fun in the water.

Snowgolf not yet an Olympic Event

Entry: Snowgolf is not yet an Olympic event, but it happens every February just the same. All the competitors try their best with their handmade clubs to drive their pink tennis ball in a straight true line and sometimes it even works. Medals or no medals all the proceeds go to help raise money for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer and that is award winning in its own right.

On the run to the Provincials
Date: Nov 2, 2009
Entry: Princeton Secondary School hosted twenty-six other high schools in the Okanagan Valley in the District Cross-Country finals. One hundred and eighty-eight students raced through the beautiful mountain top trails of China Ridge to compete for a place in the Provincials. The top 20 males and the top 20 females who crossed the finish line first were guaranteed a spot. Mud and snow did not deter the teams or the China Ridge members and school staff who attended. Like many Princeton activities, locals stepped forward to make the best of the first real snow storm. A fire was lit in the Longhouse wood stove, hot chocolate was made, hotdogs were barbequed, an outside bonfire was blazing and before we knew it the race was on Princeton style.

Talk About A Community
Date: Oct 31, 2009
Entry:
For many years Princeton had a nine hole golf course. They dreamed of the day when they would obtain official status as an 18 hole course. The project would be immense and extremely expensive for a small community our size. What happened next would be amazing. Logging and construction contractors would offer their equipment, operators would donate their time, volunteers would come out of the woodwork and as a result Princeton has an 18 hole golf course that is rapidly gaining recognition throughout British Columbia. It is safe to say over 1.5 million dollars was saved by the contributions and and a recreational dream was realised.

The Aquatic View
Date: Oct 31, 2009
Entry:
Princeton has a wide variety of recreational choices in our community. The one we lack is a year round aquatic center, a center to offer water safety, competition swimming, a leisure pool, therapy exersize and an alternate way to control weight. As a result of public input our town council has enlisted our recreation director to undertake a feasability study which involved many members of the community who offered their perspective on an indoor aquatic center. The design is nearly complete with the latest in green initiatives incorporated within. The view in the picture is the view from the proposed location, where young and old alike can enjoy the facility and the aesthetics.
