Gone but not forgotten
Date: Nov 12, 2009
Entry: The passing on of two well loved men in our community spurred the Vermilion Forks Field Naturalists into erecting a memorial in their honour. In true style, the group made the memorial useful and something to be enjoyed in nature. Many volunteer hours went into the pouring of concrete, erecting poles, hand-painting signs, collecting information and so much more. The end result was a bench that overseas the beauty of Swan Lake Bird Sanctuary and a sign like no other. The artistic creation tells the story of Swan Lake and gives hikers one more thing to enjoy while out on their excursions.

Bunchgrass Quilters
Date: Nov 9, 2009
Entry: Our community is filled with volunteers without which so many things would not happen. The Bunchgrass Quilters do their part for the community by making and donating quilts to traumatized children. Perhaps they have witnessed violence, perhaps they have been abused in some way; perhaps they have lost their home in a fire or have been in a car accident. Whatever the trauma is, these children can wrap themselves in a quilt and know that somebody, somewhere, cares about them.
