Gamestown Fever
Date: Nov 27, 2009
Entry: Way back in March of 2009, Princeton residents started talking about the Gamestown 2010 contest. They liked the idea and knew that the community was full of great people doing fantastic things. Stories of volunteers and healthy living started to pop up day after day on the website. One of the local papers got some of the town council and children together to pose for a picture to get the residents excited about the contest and inform them of the great prizes. Since then, the stories of community spirit have taken on a life of their own.

Big hearts
Date: Nov 27, 2009
Entry: After hearing about how a defibrillator installed in an arena in Penticton just days earlier was used to save the life of a man who was having a heart attack, two members of our community decided to do something about it. Marg's husband had suffered a heart attack in an arena years earlier and survived it only to have another one years later that took his life. Tyson has an active father. Both residents decided it was important to get a defibrillator into the Princeton arena and donated funds so that the Recreation Director could purchase one. Working together, RDOS picked up the remaining portion of the cost and now our arena is ready to help those in need. The kindness and generousity of people like Marg and Tyson is one more reason Princeton is such a great place to live.

More than a teacher
Date: Nov 25, 2009
Entry: One of our local teachers has gone way above and beyond to make sure his students are getting a great education. A drive to try and encourage the school board to purchase laptops for all the students from Grade 4 to 7 by the teachers fell short, but this particular teacher did not stop in his quest. This teacher used his own money to purchase Mac laptops for each of his students to use in the classroom. He downloaded them with educational programs and the students used the laptops to help them in all areas of their curriculum. Mr. A is a teacher like no other. The students learned so much in his class and are whizs on the computer.

Sandy Beach
Date: Nov 25, 2009
Entry: When ATV B.C. was in town they had a dunk tank set up at the fair grounds to raise some money for local organizations in need. When our local councillor who had agreed to be there failed to show up the crowd was pleased to see Ms. ATV B.C., Sandy Beach, show up in his place. She looked suspiciously like the councillor and gave everyone a good laugh. Everybody wanted to dunk Sandy and she only lost her wig once.

Coaching Clinic taught by top Canadian coaches
Date: Nov 25, 2009
Entry: Princeton has a very impressive basketball program underway right now. A good solid group of knowledgeable individuals from around the community have come forward to give their time, energy and coaching skills to an eager bunch of young athletes. The head coach for the Canadian Women's National Team Allison McNeill and her husband Mike McNeill(B.C. Basketball) were invited to hold a coaching clinic in Princeton and both were more than willing to accommodate. Allison was born and raised in Princeton so has a soft spot for its basketball program here. Princeton's good group of volunteer coaches came in full force to learn and pass on the knowledge to their teams. They even invited the Keremeos and Oliver coaches to come and learn from the best. The three hour clinic was motivational and jam packed full of excellent advice.

In training
Date: Nov 24, 2009
Entry: Last year, one of the Special "O" team members in Princeton decided she wanted to give power lifting a try. With the help of local gym owner and personal trainer A.S.. the athletes goals are moving forward. Neither rain nor sleet stop her from attending her four day a week training regime. A cardio warm-up followed by a program of alternating muscle group weight training has this athlete getting healthier by the minute.

A Park Worth the Wait
Date: Nov 17, 2009
Entry: Land was donated by local ranch owners to make the dream of a park a reality. The Three Brothers Mountains, acres of wildflowers and bunchgrass are all within perfect view. A walk through the park takes you along the old Kettle Valley Railway Trail. The park was the dream of a long time resident and retired teacher who is much loved in her hometown. Her mother called the area "the prettiest hills she ever saw." The park land is out of one of the original Princeton ranches. The park is for all to enjoy.

Princeton's Rich Heritage
Date: Nov 17, 2009
Entry: For the past couple of years there has been a huge push to preserve our historical trails. The Hudson Bay Trail being one of the biggest. Several dedicated members of our community have been working with the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts to clear and mark these ancient paths to the interior and coast of B.C.. The trails are being GPSed, old documents and journals are being combed, old timers have added missing pieces, old maps are being utilized and archives everywhere are being retrieved to locate these historical trails. In places the trails are deeply marked from years of huge pack horse groups beating the trail down with the depressions of their hooves, but in other places the trail is just a light hint of what it once was. The local residents of Princeton are delighted to see some of the very history that made Princeton Princeton come to life again for preservation as part of its rich soon to be 150 year old past and for the future. The trails will take new generations of outdoor enthusiasts through beautiful B.C.. There is something truly humbling about retracing the steps of our heritage and the strong unbeatable settlers who made B.C. such a great province to live in.

Remembering
Date: Nov 16, 2009
Entry: This year was the first year residents held their Remembrance Day ceremony in the newly named Veterans Square. The Cenotaph has been the venue for the service since the 1920's, but now the Square that has been built around it added to the ceremony. Locals honoured their veterans, their freedom to live a good life and the future. It was a day for remembering the sacrifices and for being grateful for the life the Canadian soldiers gave us by fighting in the dreadful world of war.

Running in the rain
Date: Nov 16, 2009
Entry: Many of the people who live in Princeton like to run. The trails and scenery are just right for the sport. A group of local runners trained to run in the Haney to Harrison 100 km relay race the beginning of November. The only thing that was new to the group was the non-stop rain, but even that did little to dampen their spirits. All the runners made good time on their leg of the run and all the athletes completed their leg injury free. In spite of the monsoon, all the athletes said they would do it again.

Healthy Relationship Day
Date: Nov 16, 2009
Entry: It is no secret that in today's age of technology new problems are arising for teenagers. Princeton Secondary School decided to do something about that. They held a Healthy Relationship Day to examine some of the problems head on. Students watched a movie on drinking and driving, performed exercises on their computers to increase their online safety, examined their own talents through questionaires and listened to an online expert talk about the dangers of releasing too much information online to strangers. The mid-day questionaires were designed to make students answer questions on what they were good at. In an age of Paris Hilton and Brittany Spears, the exploration of self was meant to look at their own internal good rather than comparing themselves to unrealistic images of wealthy air brushed stars. The computer safety expert educated the students on how to protect themselves from online predators. The day was very informative and gave students a new way to look at themselves - their assets and those of the people around them.
