An Olympic ride
Date: Dec 22, 2009
Entry: Mutton busting is tougher on the kids than the sheep. The sheep are fleet footed and the riders seem to spend more time in the dirt than on the mutton backs.

The Family Fair
Date: Dec 22, 2009
Entry: For more than two decades, Princeton Secondary School has been helping kids who want to go on to higher learning after graduation by holding a Family Fair. There is a table of baked goods, a flea market, popcorn balls, games, a tea, face painting and a whole lot more. Everything is donated. PSS is able to give out a few extra bursaries to deserving students as a result. The kids love the games and goodies they can buy for cheap and the parents love the deals and baked goods. It is a great day for a great cause.

New Beginnings
Date: Dec 22, 2009
Entry: Visitors from five communities joined the Princeton New Beginnings program in an afternoon of socializing and entertainment on Friday, July 24. The Princeton Legion donated the hall for the space and Drew Nordquist of Dragon Air provided the music to make the "Mardi Gras."
Gloria Gagnon, program coordinator supplied the group with lunch consisting of Jambalaya, Dirty Rice and King Cake. In keeping with tradition, inside the King Cake was a "baby" (the recipient of which is to receive good luck), and was found by Cathy Skoyen, W.J.S. Penticton. She was then informed that within nine months, she would have a baby. Skoyen chuckled, and decided to pass that good luck onto someone else.
Day program members of Keremeos, Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos, Summerland and Princeton then spent the afternoon dancing up a storm and just having fun.

Gifts from the heart
Date: Dec 22, 2009
Entry: From the sweetness of strawberry shortcake, (by donation) to cookies, candy bark loaves and more, your taste-buds will have been given a treat to remember. Strawberry shortcake and tea or coffee was served by volunteers in the Valentine themed dining room. The homemade goodies for purchase at the "Gifts from the Heart " fundraiser on Valentine's Day, were made by the residents, family members, kitchen staff and the home support workers. Vermilion Court is assisted living for seniors, currently home to seventeen residents, four home support workers working shift-work and an evening in-house caretaker. Aida Bouvette, Adult Day Care Centre Coordinator and the event organizer, thought this idea to be a great way to help to raise funds to expand Vermilion Court. Bouvette said, " every one has gotten involved, all the co-workers, volunteers and staff— we're like a big family, everyone is great and have been so supportive." Two draws ended the afternoon; a 50/50 won by Marena White, raised a total of $102 and the red teddy and chocolates was won by Marlyse Essex. The afternoon was a great success, and Aida sums it up eloquently by stating, " This is a generous community, a beautiful town to be living in—we could not have done this without our community."

The Gingerbread Man left more than crumbs at John Allison School
Date: Dec 20, 2009
Entry: The kindergarten children at John Allison Elementary spent the better part of the morning chasing down the allusive gingerbread boy and gingerbread girl after a morning of baking cookies. "The gingerbread man jumped out of the pan and got away....." said a concerned student. "Someone must have opened the oven door before the cookies were cooked." The cookies were found in the Learning Centre just before noon in time for lunch.

Everybody's learning to Skate
Date: Dec 19, 2009
Entry: The staff at John Allison Elementary School have been taking the students skating for the last many years. From Kindergarten right through to Grade 3, all students are fitted for skates out of a large skate reserve the school has compiled and given a helmet. Twice before Christmas and twice after Christmas the whole school gets a chance to try out the sport. Students are bused to our arena. Staff and parents come to help tie skates and help get the kids skating. It is a great winter activity and for some children gives them a chance to try something new and get their parents out there too.
