Enviro and handicapped friendly town
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Recently Invermere has adopted bylaws to stop ideling vehicles for more than a couple of minutes to reduce emmissions, stop the use of pestisides on lawns and gardens to protect our children and pets, and water restrictions and meters to reduce wasteful water usage. Also handicapped parking spaces have been revised all around town with space for unloading and loading off the street and ramps up to the sidewalks. This will make it much easier for our handicapped locals and visitors to enjoy all our town has to offer.

Great Fishing around Invermere
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Invermere is located on the north end of Lake Windermere and fishing is great both summer and winter.
There are trout, char, bass, whitefish and many species of coarse fish here. In the winter there is a ice road to neighbouring Windermere and out to the many ice shacks along the hot fishing spots around the lake. Caution though as there are also warm springs in the lake that create thin ice and not all are marked.
In the summer early morning fishing is advised as the water skiiers get active when the sun get high and the lake gets busy. We also have many great fishing lakes and streams in the back country around the valley.
For the seniors and youth there is Lake Dorthy right by Kinsmen Beach where you can relax and teach your grandchildren to fish without being disturbed. This is a small lake seperated from Windermere lake restricted to youth and seniors and no motors.

shhhhhh! it's a secret
Date: Dec 31, 2009
Entry: Please don't tell anyone, but Invermere is the best place in the world to live. It is centred by beautiful Lake Windermere which provides lots of swimming, boating and water activities in the summer. In the winter, the lake freezes over and you wouldn't believe how many people are out there fishing, skating, cross-country skiing, walking, quadding and just plain enjoying the scenery. And we don't want everyone to know about the skiing that's a 20 minute drive from town. There are never lift lines at Panorama and in the spring, people have been known to ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon. Once the snow melts, then all the summer stuff starts and we like to keep really quiet about that. Hiking, mountain biking, and fishing are just a few of the secretst we are trying to keep. But probably the biggest secret of all is how wonderful are the people of Invermere. We are loyal, hardworking, supportive, compassionate, friendly and very proud of our community. Everyone is very excited about welcoming the Olympic Torch on January 22nd, and that's no secret!!!

Everything you could possibly want!
Date: Nov 16, 2009
Entry: Invermere is everything you could possibly want when it comes to healthy living. Clean, fresh air all year long, healthy attitudes amongst community members and four seasons of physical activities for all ages and desires! A day in my shoes... Step out the front door and I'm off for a walk with my two dogs. Within five minutes we are at the beach. The dogs run and play in the waves rolling on to the shore while I jog and breath in the crisp clean fresh air. Heading back home, I meet my neighbour who has just on her way to the local fitness centre. She is meeting her friend for their weekly workout. Once I'm home I prepare for my day at work. I bring my change of clothes for after work where I will be attending a pilates class. At class I am joined by 10 others who enjoy the core workout. One of the attendees quickly changes after class into a Judo Gi and is off to teach Judo to 30 young energtic students. There are over 50 registered in Judo, a club that has been run by volunteers for more than 45 years. My husband, an advid runner, joins one of the many groups for a weekly run along the banks of the lake. At the end of our day we meet with the runners together and share stories over a meal. Each day, each week is filled with a variety of opportunities for all community members with regards to fitness. Judo, pilates, yoga, skating, hockey, running groups, cycling groups, spinning, curling, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, horseback riding, skateboarding, badminton, volleyball, soccer, rugby, bowling, rock climbing, and the list goes on. Invermere has the longest outdoor skating track in Canada and it has the only outside curling tournament. To support our healthy fitness levels we have active community members developing and encouraging community gardens and a they have built a greenhouse for growing healthy food for our local highschool, providing our youth with alternative choices to fast foods. Clean air, lots of variety in healthy activities and opportunities to eat healthy... what more could anyone ask for. Invermere...it's the best!

Invermere a Great Place to live
Date: Oct 13, 2009
Entry: Invermere, located in the Columbia Valley in Southeastern BC is a great place to live. It is a community of 3000 people who really care about each other and look out for each other are always trying to help make Invermere a better place to live. The town has all the clubs, organizations and sports that you would find in a community 10 or 20 times its size. We are nestled between the Purcell Mountains to our west and the Canadian Rockies to our east. We are situated on Lake Windermere. The lake provides us every water sport you can think of and likewise the mountains provide us with all the winter sports. We are also a great area for fishing, hunting, hiking, birdwatching, etc. About the only major thing we are missing is an indoor swimming pool but our outdoor hot springs located close by make up for the lack of a swimming pool.
