Figure Skating

Entry: Every Thursday from 2:30 to 3:15pm you can see a dedicated group of figure skaters that gather for a session called "simulations". During these sessions the skaters get to skate their solo programs just like they would in a competiton. It's a great way for the skaters to skate their solos without having to watch out for other skaters on the ice, and they receive feedback from the coach. It's a great time to come and get a sneek peek of these awsome skaters! There are figure skating stars in the making right here in Houston!

Triathlon and bike racing

Entry: Here in Houston and the surrounding area we have some really good highways for training and racing on. The newly paved Highway 117 Granisle will make a setting for an awesome 95km challenging Road Race in mid may 2010.Bike racing is one of the other ways we enjoy the area and it allows us to keep fit. there is something about crusing down the lonely highways at 30-50 mph on a bike that says "Freedom". Outdoor living at its finest. In our area we also host one of the only true Century rides (160km) in BC and maybe in Canada. A breathtaking ride that starts in Prince Rupert on the coast and heads east along the Skeena River and ends in Terrace with a little jaunt out to Ridley island terminals.Held every year in August it is now on its 20th year in 2010.

Here Comes Santa, Here comes Santa....

Entry: Every year Santa Claus makes a special appearance at the Leisure Facility Santa Claus swim. Children are invited to come to public swim and take a swim, decorate cookies, sit in the Polar Bear Ice Bucket and play other holiday games.

Jeans Day

Entry: The Houston Leisure Facility is always excited to find new ways of bring excitement to their work! This year the staff participated in Jeans Day and were allowed to wear jeans out on deck while guarding. The guards loved getting to wear something different as well as participating as a team!

X-Country Ski

Entry: We have some of the most awesome x-Counrty ski trails anywhere in BC.
Scenic and challenging,just head up Sawmill pass from the west side,now theres a climb but the trails are there for all levels not just the rugged people that strive on pain lol
Come check em out ..get out and enjoy the fresh crisp air..

Entry: And they lived happily ever after...this day is set to thrill the littlest princesses in the community. Little Princesses were invited to come dressed in their gowns and spend the morning having a tea party, create a royal craft and a fashion show.

Spook-tacular Swim

Entry: Get ready to have the swim trunks scared right off of you! The Leisure Facility hosts an annual Halloween swim where children are dared to go through the haunted house. The lifeguards spend weeks planning the event and it is their responsibility to develop activities, buy the supplies and set the event up.
The Halloween Swim takes place the night before Halloween and is becoming a tradition at the facility!

Move for Health Day

Entry: Houston Proudly supports Move for Health Day and events around the community occur during the week and on the day. The Leisure Facility offers events such as reduced gym rates for the day (or a deal if you bring a friend), special Saturday Aquafit classes and muffins and water in the lobby area. For the last few years there has been a Move for Health Tree: any type of physical activity done on this day by any community member is encouraged to fill out a leaf and add it to the tree!

12th Annual Kids Triathlon

Entry: The Houston Leisure Facility is proud to present the Annual Kids Triathlon. Each spring children between the ages of 4-13 years swim, bike and run their way to success. Each participant receives a shirt and free lunch. As well as finisher ribbons, medals and prizes! This past spring over 20 children took part on the gorgeous day and it was a fun filled day. The leisure facility looks forward to hosting the 13th annual in 2010 on Canada Day

Lessons run year round and accomodate out of town participants as well as locals. Instructors are certified to teach Red Cross Swim Preschool and Kids. As well, the facility has started offering adult and senior swim lessons with much success!

The joy of living in a small town is that you can always see those stars! Going for walk at night through Christmas lit streets with trees in windows and a hot chocolate in hand is what it is all about!
