Entry: I like Houston because I can swim,play soccer,baseball,ringette,shinney/hockey,rugby,basketball,figure skating,volleyball,karate,curling,and bowling,but most of all I love Taekwondo!!!!!!!!!!!! It is like karate. Houston is also a very healthy town.Every year our school learns about healthy living.

Greener and Healthier every year!

Entry: I've lived in Houston since 1974 and, looking back, am totally impressed with the changes in our community offering 'greener' and 'healthier' options.
Changes include:
- the vacant lot along the highway is now a beautiful park
- swimming lessons that were only annually in Irrigation Lake are now daily in our beautiful geo-thermally heated pool.
- the pile of rubble by the river dike is now a thriving community garden.
- vending machines in schools that offered primarily pop and chips now offer healthy options
- the High School has a weekly healthy lunch program
- people are working with local and regional government to set up more recycling options and to reduce the waste going to the Knockholt land fill.
The people of Houston, the businesses, the ogranizations, and the government are totally on board in their efforts to improve and retain a healthy 'green' community.

Entry: I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to post or vote for Houston. It shows that we have great community pride. When the call went out and the emails were send Houston rose to the challenge and became a well functioning voting and posting machine. In the past 48 hours all that you can hear when you walk through the street is have you posted on Gamestown. Did you remember to vote? We have doubled the number of pages we had posted on Monday afternoon. In my heart you are all winners and that is why I am glad to call Houston my home.

Entry: O.K. The whole town is buzzing. Everyone I talk to today is asking me whether I've posted something on Gamestown 2010. We've got less than 24 hours to prove to the judges that we want to be Gamestown? Well if a phone call at 9:00 p.m. from the staff at the Chamber of Commerce, two emails from friends, a reminder at a completely unrelated meeting this morning, and several - so what have you posted? inquiries isn't enough I don't know what is. I even got an email to try to get a group together to say how much we want to be Gamestown 2010. Well, between Tae Kwan Do, Fitness classes, Piano lessons, homework, and making dinner out veggies that I grew in my own garden this summer and canned myself this fall along with the deer my husband harvested himself (in an attempt to be more environmentally & health conscious) I just don't have time to get a group together...but here's the folks that are hanging around my house today (kids + friends + cousins) with what we have to say...
(P.S. Just the fact that I got my family together, taped them, created a Youtube account and uploaded the video should be sign enough that we want it!!! HOUSTON IS GAMESTOWN 2010!!!!)

Winters in Houston

Entry: We have lived in Houston for years and have enjoyed the people, community and small town feel. In a small town we have limited resources as every small community but I must say we've come together in the past 10 years to really boost Houstons activity level with our new lesiure facility, well utilized arena. How we as a family stay active is teams sports all my children are involved in sports winter and summer. We enjouy camping around the surrounding area. Houston has some of the most beatiful lake such as Morice Lake. We enjoy the quietnes but am only a few hours away from a more urban community. We love it here.
