Cut Loose Quilters Quilt Show

Entry: This Nov. the Houston Cut Loose Quilters hosted a Quilt Show in our Community!
Aprox. 100 Quilted Items where displayed, by Quilters from our community and the Bulkley Valley! Ages of the Quilters ranged from the youngest Quilters who where were 9 and 14 years old! to the more senior quilters in their late 60's and perhaps a little more! We were also happy to include a male quilter from our community who also displayed his quilts!
The Cut Loose Quilters have over the past 8 years made and donated more than 17 quilts to persons or events in our community, 12 baby quilts to 2 community service organizations to give to children they feel would benefit, and have most recently made and sold 67 unique bags who's proceeds from the sale of the bags are sent to the "Gifts to Grannies" program via the Kelowna G2G group. The money from the sale of these bags will go to Grannies in Africa who now find themselves caring for their Grandchildren because their parent have passed away due to illness.
A wonderful group of ladies working and living in our fair community of "Houston"!

Duck pond trail

Ringette Tournament

Entry: On Dec 4,5,6th Houston hosted a Tween and Belle division Tournament. Teams from Terrace, Quesnel, and Prince George all participated in this event. There was some very competitive games to enjoy through out the weekend. Our Association has lots of great volunteers that hosted a luncheon and of course the fund raising raffle table. It's always exciting to see who goes home with the prizes at the end of the weekend. We are very proud of our local arena, and we always try and utilize our ice times the best we can. We like to make other Associations feel welcome when arriving at our arena, especially after they have made the five hour drive in winter road conditions.... just so their kids can play ringette.

Morice Mt. Day Hike

Entry: This summer I experienced a spectacular view from the top of Morice Mt. located just South of Houston! The trail up took you through a large variety of terrain that exercised the heart and lungs!.. The pay off was the view at the top which was fantastic! It was an 8 hour round trip with plenty of time to enjoy the views, and a lovely lunch at the summit!

Entry: Wow! We have just finished another fabulous weekend of Ringette. Houston held a Tween, Junior, Belle tournament this weekend that kept the crowds cheering for more. Teams from Houston, Terrace, Quesnel and Prince George participated. Way to go girls and boys you all played with heart ! So proud!

Entry: After reading through our local weekly paper, it was impossible to resist posting a little bit of 'hometown pride'....
in one week, our local athletes showed us what they were made of... and its nothing short of AWESOME!!!
These are the headlines, you make up your own mind...
1) Houston Christian School senior boys Provincial champions in Volleyball
2) Houston Luckies (CIHL) win 5-2 over the Burns Lake Braves
3) Houston Figure Skating Club's pairs team place 3 in the BMO BC Sectional Championships in Richmond
4) Houston Minor Hockey's Pee Wee's host a home ice tournament and take 2nd place

Walking towards good health

Entry: My doctor told me that I should be getting more exercise. I hate exercise. But my daughter has encouraged me to walk with her. To my amazement, I am enjoying the moments spent with her wandering around this little town. The Christmas lights are great.

Entry: It never ceases to amaze me that we have such a great facility. Staffed with the world's friendliest lifeguards, this is the best place to swim a few lengths or enjoy the huge hot tub!!!

Entry: Houstonites are known for their hockey loyalties. Small children are begging to be part of a team and, as soon as they go to kindergarten, many of them start playing. Parents get up at the crack of dawn to scrape the ice and snow off their windshields to drive two or three hours to a game. Many of those same small children have grown up and are now playing on the Houston Luckies CIHL team. Go Houston!

Entry: Houston is blessed with great hiking within a short distance. My family loves to climb to the heights and poke around. We always pack a lunch and make a day of it. We all enjoy the surrounding mountains.

Entry: The Morice Mountain ski trails are now groomed and ready for action. Lots of people have been out there already. People are grinning ear to ear while skiing. Makes for frozen teeth but a glowing heart and soul.

Entry: When my last child was born, I was taken aback by the kindness of Houston folk. People I had only met iin passing were dropping off casseroles at my door. I had offers to help clean, shop, and look after my other children. Being a relative new comer to this town, my husband and I decided that this is where we will live for the rest of our lives. Thank you for caring, Houstonites!
