Great place to be from.
Date: Jan 6, 2010
Entry: When I tell people I moved to Houston from a well populated city people give me the look like I was crazy. Maybe at the time I probably didn't think it all though, but I have not regrets. I am proud to be from such a great community that takes pride on our little town, like the Steelhead park, our great walking trails, and the wildlife comes right to your backdoor, Literally. I would not want to raise my children in any other town. The schools and the other programs my kids are enrolled in have great, caring teachers/coaches. The volunteers are have the biggest hearts in the world, and are always willing to go the extra mile. So when I tell people that I would far rather live here than a city, I don't care if they think I am crazy. I am PROUD to be from Houston.

Community Christmas worth remembering!
Date: Jan 6, 2010
Entry: For 5 years in a row, a group of very gracious volunteers have put on a free Christmas dinner for anyone in the community who doesn't want to be alone Christmas eve. The idea began in the mind of one caring lady who decided it was sad that people might possibly be alone for Christmas.... over the years her help has grown and so has the popularity of coming out. This year the special treat was an offering of 19 pumpkin pies, baked by some local ladies who just thought they 'should'!! The Legion (also volunteers) offers the use of their facility which includes a fabulous commercial kitchen, there is an opportunity for having a family photo taken, and the atmosphere is family-like, just the way a small town should feel!!
Isn't that the way Christmas should be?
Thank you and Merry Christmas!!

Ringette
Date: Jan 6, 2010
Entry: My husband and I signed our daughter up for ringette because she was very shy, and we thought it would be a good way to meet some new people. The older girls were really nice and always trying to help. At the tournaments the older girls would do everything they could so the little girls could score. That's not something you see everyday. It is a great sport and it really helped our shy little girl become much more outgoing. She has met lots of new friends. Ringette Rocks!

Recreation is green in Houston!
Date: Jan 6, 2010
Entry: Thanks to the vision and hard work of District of Houston Council & employees both past & present, the arena is now heating the pool.
2009 marked the completion of the GEOEXCHANGE project. The Claude Parish arena's cooling system is connected to the heating system of the Houston Leisure facility. Natural gas use is way down! On cold days when the ice gives off little heat, the geothermal bed kicks in as back up. Doesn't get much greener than that!
Pictured is part of the GeoExchange system inside the pool maintenance room.

Morice Lake
Date: Jan 6, 2010
Entry: Tucked away, only an hours drive, from Houston; via the back country. Is a lake hidden from the world. Morice Lake. If you could drive over the mountains, you would be in the town of Kitamat. Where the ocean is. However, until that happens Houstonites, can enjoy the beauty in this Lake. The lake is crystal clear, with hues of green. Just as you would find at the ocean. It even fools the people, as when the wind gods blow. The waves are like, the ocean. Today, when these pictures were taken, our weather was exceptionally hot. We had recently, a forest fire in the area, so the smog, is from the fire.
My children, 7 and 11, had fun catching and realeasing fish, boating, swimming, and enjoying the beauty of the nature around us. Dad and Mom, enjoyed it too! What an awesome Community we live in!!

Houston Green Iniatives for A Better World
Date: Jan 6, 2010
Entry: There are tons of reasons why i could say we have a great town to live and raise a family in a safe envioroment. Small towns like ours is where its at. People know and support each other in some way every day.Where else is it in canada that it sometimes takes you 2hours to check the mail at Canada post. Thats because we all know each other and meet just about every time you head out the door for any kind of busisness. Our community over the past few years has done more work than communities 4 times our size to reduce waste and greenhouse emmissions. With our new multi-million $ investment in Geo-Thermal heating we use Geo-Thermal to heat our new leisure facility. Remember all the steam and heat tha used to come out of the stacks at out Claude Parish Memorial Arena. Well no more ,now with the new geo we capture that wasted heat/energy loss and store it in underground heat exchangers and transfer it to our Leisure Facility to heat the pool. Super Idea and makes sense and saves us money too.Eventuall we will be able to use this geo-thermal to heat the rest of our municipal buildings and some of the surrounding facilities as well. All this work does come at some cost tho and with all the cash we have spent on the geo we have neglected some other needs..namely our dressing rooms in the hockey arena. Winning this competition for GAMESTOWN 2010 will enable us I feel to upgrade these and add more appeal to an already nice arena. if you want to live in the North and enjoy all the perks of family life at its best, the great outdoors full of exciting things to do like hunting, fishing, canoeing, climbing, running, triathlon training on some of the quitest roads around stop by Houston where the world of oppertunities awaits you.
