School Spirit

Entry: This is the amazing school spirit Houston Secondary puts on every year. Twice a year we hold a Spirit Day, which the school is split into 4 House colors, all named after the mountains that surround us.
Blue - China Knows
Green - Nanika
Red - Morrice
Black - Nadina
During these days, the house teams compete for the "House Cup". If you are ever able to come and watch any of these events, you would see the amazing spirit this school holds for eachother. I believe this happens because of Houstons close nit community, allowing many friendships to flourish over the years. I have lived here all my life, and know that even if I move, I will come back to visit, not only for family and friends, but to raise my children.

Babine Lake

Entry: With the warm summer we had, we were so lucky to be able to enjoy some boating on babine lake. Barclay the daredevil enjoyed the quick dip in babine Lake. With just a quick 40 minute drive, the Lake was a god-sent during the hot spell

Entry: the whole school participated in the Terry Fax Run down to the local park and back to school. It was great to see the kindergarteners to grade 7 and all the teachers and parents taking part.

Indoor Hockey

Entry: Even with the chilly weather over the christmas break, hockey was never too far from the mind. Even though he doesn't play with the league he is getting alot of at home practice being goalie, who knows maybe one day he will show interest in lacing up and trying out the net. Houston is a huge hockey town. From a very young age to the oldtimers, it is a favorite.

Entry: Swim Club is a wonderful activity for this group of kids, They had a great time at the First ever Houston Aquatic Club Swim Meet. It was a huge success and the kids all did very well and made themselves and all of us parents, helpers and community proud.

The Salmon Project

Entry: Every year our schools raise salmon. They spend the winter learning about their habitat, life cycles and spawning. The children get to release the fry into a stream with the help of fisheries in the spring.

Entry: A family friend of ours has a cabin on Troitsa lake. Every year he brings a bunch of friends up for a weekend of sledding. The views are amazing. The sledding even better!

Entry: My children and I enjoy going up to the Morice Mountain Ski Trails for some winter fun. This particular day was a bit too chilly for them (-17 degrees), but we were lucky to have the cabin an d lit a fire to warm up.. The kids are looking forward to Jackrabbits beginning next weekend.

Building for Generations ... Past, Present and Future!

Entry: My family moved to Houston in 1970. During the seventies by most Houston was considered a transient town. Jobs at the local mills were easy to come by so we saw many people move in and out of town. However, many fell in love with this great place and decided to stay and make it their families home for generations to come. The families that had been here before the big mills and mines came welcomed us with open arms, they were excited to see their small community grow. Even back then the town saw the importance of recreation soon the townspeople had a community hall, a new arena and a curling club, all are now the places of many happy memories! Then came not one but two great family golf courses, the nordic ski trails, groomed snowmobile trails, a seasonal pool, a fitness gym, baseball fields, hiking and cycling trails and the list goes on! Most recently we traded in our seasonal pool for a year round leisure facility that is home to an awesome fitness gym and an amazing pool! Houston is continually developing it's recreational opportunities for it's residents! I am glad my family moved here in 1970 over the years I have enjoyed most everything it has to offer and so now have my family and maybe one day my families families!
