50th Anniversary

Entry: Houston celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007. It was a wonderful weekend of celebrations!
There were school celebrations, the mills offered mill tours, the seniors held a strawberry tea, people enjoyed an ethnic food fair, parade, entertainment, rodeo, childrens games, family picnic.

Entry: The plants were bought from our local greenhouse(Riverside gardens). My children 7 and 10, take pride, in daily chores. Of watering, weeding and picking the organically grown produce. Healthy living, in a wonderful community!!

Incomprable Spirit!

Entry: Houston´s spirit is incomparable! As two exchange-students staying in Houston for a year we would like to point out Houston´s spirit which made our stay to an incredible and unforgettable experience. This community also has innumerable outdoor opportunities. Trying out all the great offers of outdoor activities kept up busy (and sometimes even sore) the whole year long and made time definitely fly by too fast!

Entry: Claude Parish Memorial arena filling up as the Houston Luckies take to the ice. Everyone gets down to the rink to support the hometown boys. After the teams warm up the zamboni driver cleans the ice and without missing a beat makes his way back on the ice to sing the national anthem.

Medieval Fun

Entry: The local Medieval Society (S.C.A) put on a tournament in Houston in October. It is a great deal of fun as well as a great form of exercise to get out and put on medieval armour. We go all out when in tournament mode but there is a great deal of camaraderie after. We do medieval sword fighting, rapier fighting, archery and pretty much anything else that was done in the middle ages. Dressing in medieval clothing takes some getting used to but soon becomes second nature and a great deal of fun. The best part is making new friends and re-visiting old friends.
