Hope - Gateway to outdoor advenure!
Date: May 13, 2009
Entry: Hope is located 2 hours east of Vancouver at the top end of the lush Fraser Valley. Our community of approximately 7,000 is nestled below the Cascade Mountains at the junction of the Fraser and Coquihalla Rivers. Just to the East of Hope is EC Manning Provincial Park - a year round destination for outdoor enthusiasts as it offers skiing (nordic & alpine) plus snowshoeing & ice skating in the winter plus hiking, mountain biking and canoeing/kayaking in the summer. The trails there range from multi-day excursions in the high alpine to short nature walks suitable for all ages and abilities. To the South of Hope is the wilderness of the Skagit Valley Provincial Park - an area that offers fly fishing plus more hiking trails. To the north of Hope is the scenic and historic Fraser Canyon - where you can go river rafting, fishing, hiking, gold panning & rockhounding. To the North-East you can follow the TransCanada Trail on the abandoned Kettle Valley Railway route for hiking and mountain biking plus other wilderness trails accessible from Hwy #5. Right in Hope we have a fabulous 9 hole (18 tee box) golf course, many ball/sports fields, a challenging Skatepark for skateboarders/BMX bikers/in line skaters as well as lakes for watersports and creeks/rivers for fishing plus more trails for hiking/biking. So if you love taking part in outdoor adventures - Hope is the place to be! That what makes being a member of the Hope Outdoors Club so exciting...we have outings planned for each weekend of the year plus most of the Tuesdays as well... anyone planning to visit Hope can contact our Hope Visitor Centre for dates/times & details of the outings. We always welcome others to join us. Outings are social & fun and we strive to always travel at a pace that suits all of the particpants.
