25 YEARS PLUS IN THE MAKING BUT WE BELIEVE IT WILL BECOME A REALITY...
Date: Nov 16, 2009
Entry: IT HAS BEEN 25 YEARS PLUS IN THE MAKING BUT OUR DREAMS OF A COMMUNITY HALL IS STILL OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.... A plan of action was put into place and a volunteer Group was formed. The first achievement made was the purchase of a community garbage truck because they felt there was a need to dispose of garbage due to health concerns & to keep G.V. beautiful. They then decided there was a desperate need for a Community Hall. We have had a number of our members that created a Committee consisting of elders & other volunteers that were interested in our dreams of having a Community Hall. I would like to point out that we are the only community in our area that does not have a recreational facility as of yet. They had bake Sales, Raffles, House bingos & finally created a group known as the Glen Vowell Hall Committee that have monthly Bingos. This has been an on going project for over the last 25 years. We have had many dedicated volunteers who oversee the bingos. They are as follows, Sarah Woods, Carol Azak, Barb Huson, Dale Sampson, Ron Sampson, Drake Travers, Lawrence Azak, Jillane Spence, Perry Sampson Jr, Shirley Milton, Sally Sampson & many many more volunteers. To date we have had Engineers come in & create a design of our hall & where it will be situated. Our People are excited and anxious to get this project underway. We hope for the sake of our elders that are no longer with us we see our dreams become a reality. This would truly benefit our community as a whole especially give our youth something to look forward to.

ROBERT ESMIE VISITS GLEN VOWELL
Date: Oct 23, 2009
Entry: Our small community was the lucky early bird draw winner to have an olympian visit our Community. We had the great pleasure of meeting Robert Esmie Gold Medal winner. He was an very interesting guest & provided DVD's of his accomplishments throughout his career. I was so touched by his words of encouragement he gave those in attendance. My grandaughter, Kali 4 yrs, was so impressed & found herself with a new found friend. We had the pleasure of holding & posing with his gold medals...it made it all the more special for all in attendance. I would like to commend the following individuals Deb Azak, Lisa Olson, Dale Sampson, Rob Sampson & the Glen Vowell Band Staff & Council for all their hard work prior to the gathering. It is the volunteers that make the difference & made the event the success it was. Our volunteers from our community provided an awesome luncheon. Robert said he could "feel the love" that went into preparing the food. ....So cooks many thumbs up to all your hard work. On a final note I would like to thank the organizers & Robert Esmie & those responsible for having Robert come to Glen Vowell. We will not soon forget this awsome day & we wish Robert Esmie. All the best on his quest for more gold in 2010 Olympics.

PLAYGROUND BECOMES A REALITY IN 1996...THANKS TO THE DEDICATION OF A COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER & NUMEROUS FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES.
Date: May 29, 2009
Entry: A Community member decided that our children desperately needed a playground as we did not have any activity or a playground since our Indian Day school closed down many years go. A volunteer gave her time & energy to raise at least $10,000 plus or more. It was through Mini Bingos, various Raffles, BBQ's etc. that this dream became a reality. Without the generous donations by community members & surrounding area this would not have been possible. The project started in 1994 and was completed in 1996. Another member donated his time & energy as well. Although the community maintenance personnel have made minor repairs we have noted that our playground is deteriorating. Another generation has decided to pursue their dream of either repairing the existing set or to add on more accessories to the set.
We hope they will succeed with this project as our children need a safe environment to play. Good luck ladies & a job well done to the prior fundraising efforts.

Ths year in April 2009 we had 24 Members of our Sik-E-Dakh Sun Run team who attended the sun run in Vancouver . All of our Team completed & registered a time with the exception of two faulty electronic tags.
Date: May 25, 2009
Entry: Hello
I am very proud to say that we had 24 participants that joined our Sun Run Team under my leadership. I was very fortunate to have two dedicated trainers JS & JV who volunteered their time & energy to prepare our runners/walkers. The age group was 13 to 55 years and they were all eager & very excited about their training regimnent. This was a great experience for all our participants. It brought our group closer & we were able to relate to one another regarding our run/walk and what we all achieved. After the completion of the sun run most of our group has continued on with the walk/run training. As a matter of a fact most will be entering in other 10 km Runs planned in other communities in the near future. This walk/run program has proven to be a positive & healthy choice for our small community. I am very proud of all the participants & hope they continue on with their training program. Good Luck & a Job Well Done!
