Hiking in the Cranbrook area
Date: Oct 28, 2009
Entry: Numerous visitors make the 45 minute hike to Lakit Lookout which overlooks the Cranbrook area. For many people this is their first experience hiking. We find tremendous pleasure in hiking with many of our friends and families. It combines pleasure with good wholesome exercise. A recent hike to Lakit Lookout treated us to both a sunset and a moonrise. The path down was brightly lit by the moon and our headlamps were not necessary!

C3 Challenge - Cardio, Core, Cadence
Date: Jul 6, 2009
Entry: As an immigrant, now a citizen I am always fascinated by the helping hand of friendship that has been offered to me. I would like to offer a gift in return. The gift is the idea to assist in developing an annual event which will aid in sustaining the upkeep of the Idlewild outdoor fitness facility and motivate the populace inclusive of all generations.
Hopefully this will inspire the youth to take part in activities which will enhance their level of fitness and move then more towards training for life rather than aesthetics. Fitness first, a desirable physique will follow.
The regime will take part in a fitness challenge which will task a team to endure exercises designed to challenge balance, range of motion, endurance, quickness, strength and flexibility. Because these exercises are based on functionality a person will enhance their lifestyle globally, for those who take part in sport or just general everyday activities, the benefits will be seen and felt.
By optimising your use of time an individual can elevate and maintain a desired level of fitness with the minimum of equipment. The free manual which is available at the Rec Plex will inform you how.
Remember, fitness is the best mood enhancer and maintaining the body’s wellness will assist with keeping at bay myriad of ailments.

Cranbrook is the largest city in the Kootenay Region in south eastern British Columbia with a population nearing 30,000, and not 20,000, that was the population about 4 years ago, and they just expanded the boundary's last year. Earth Day Celebration
Date: May 25, 2009
Entry: A community celebration was held to recognize Earth Day in our newly built Spirit Square located in Rotary Park downtown, Cranbrook. The event featured five talented local musical performances. Elementary students also sang a beautiful nature song. There were many people who attended this open air event, and those who did were considered particularly hardy, since the cool north winds starting blowing mid way through (we woke to snow the next morning). Other highlights were the community groups which provided information on environmental activities (including environmental clubs and initiatives) and eco-friendly goods (like local foods and bikes). The children loved the hands on activity prepared by the Young Naturalist Club of making walking sticks, and using natural dyes like paprika to decorate them!
The community pulled together donating most of what was needed to hold this event. This was very much appreciated by Wildsight, the regional environmental organization, who hosted the event.
