Entry: On of the most amazing accomplishment in our small school is the number of sports team we manage to support. Despite the small numbers of students and relatively few teachers available to coach, we always seem to be able to put together a grade 8, a junior, and a senior team for boys and girls in to compete in the major school sports.

Entry: One of our students, who is known for his "'fro" challenged the community. He said that if $500 was donated, to help the family of a fellow student who was badly injured during the summer, he would shave off his 'fro. The goal was surpassed and the 'fro is gone!

Fitness Centre

We are so lucky to have a top of the line Fitness Centre here in our small town of Clearwater: strength machines, free weights, pulley system, Olympic Power Rack, cross-trainers, treadmills and bikes, certified weight trainers (BCRPA) to help with designing personalized programs to reach individual goals as well as a variety of courses available (with specialized Instructors): Pilates, Yoga, Aerobics, Stretch classes, First Aid, Avalanche Awareness, River Rescue etc. Childminding is also available at no cost for gym participants.
Thanks to our gym supervisor volunteers and our committed long term members, the facility is able to stay open 15 hours a day, BRAVO Clearwater! Moving onto the 6th year of being open for the community. Keep Fit and Stay Healthy!

Entry: Sparks, Brownies, Girl Guides, Pathfinders, and Rangers - and their Guiders - are always on the go in Clearwater. Whether learning all sorts of new things at regular meetings, singing, enjoying arts and crafts, taking part in events with young folk from other places, camping, participating in sleep-overs, or learning to ski - it's all good fun.

Wetlands

Entry: Last year with the help of a grant and volunteers, Raft River Elementary created an actual wetlands ecosystem on the property. This project included the creation of a small wetlands pond and included some of the students in the planning and design. This wetlands allows students to go out doors and study the development and importance wetlands play on our ecosystem.

Cross Country Skiing

Entry: The school and the Parent Advisory Council has outfitted a complete class set of cross country skis for students and classes to use. Classes have use of a groomed track in a field right behind the school thanks to local volunteers, the local ski club and the local owner of the field. Classes at Raft River Elementary make good use of this opportunity in the winter time which includes dry land training and lunch time clubs.

House teams

Entry: Students are put on one of three house teams when they enter grade 8 (Raft, Grizzly or Trophy). These house teams are used throughout the school year to promote participation in the various activities organized by Student Council. The biggest event for the house teams is the indoor track meet. Students wear Red, White or Black to show everyone which team they are a part of.

Entry: All Raft River Elementary students participated in a two day workshop hosted by Curl Canada and the local curling club. All the students were introduced to curling by Curl Canada coaches and were able to throw some rocks at the local curling club!

Entry: I've been teaching here for 30 years. The kids here love to play intramurals at lunch time, especially dogdeball. Some of the boys have arms like guns. There's no game more basic than throwing a ball at someone, and dodging when they throw it back.
