History of Decorations for the Holidays
Date: Dec 15, 2009
Entry: History of Decorations for the Holidays
The District of Chetwynd has a long history of decorating with lights for the Holiday Season. With a unique downtown centre of our community we have always had some form of lighting downtown, which includes a community tree. Little Prairie was incorporated as Chetwynd in 1962 and even before that Little Prairie had many types of celebrations for Christmas. There has been a Light-Up Contest for as long we can remember for residents and business.

This is a four-day cross-generational backpacking adventure in the Chetwynd area.
Date: Dec 4, 2009
Entry: Two of my grand children, their father, and I participated in a four-day backpacking bonding event in the wilderness south of Chetwynd on Labour Day weekend. There is not much to equal an experience that brings together family from age 69 to 13 in circumstances that require us to depend on each other. We hiked in the rain and enjoyed the rain; we hiked in the sun and reveled in it. The ups seemed to go up for miles and the downs the same. We sampled blueberries and huckelberies in the grizzly bear's kitchen - we know because he was there in his majestic glory at 35 yards. He looked us over, counted us, evaluated his options, and left us in peace. Thanks, bear.

The freedom of exercising our option...
Date: Nov 29, 2009
Entry: It is a priviledge for us to live in Chetywynd.
Is it the the diversity of the economical opportunities which continues to attract educated, interesting talents into our town, or do people grow to enjoy the mix of the real four seasons nature offers?
Very often, we explore to find a "perfect" place to move to: economical balance, natural beauty, a variety of accessible, affordable recreational services and a good quality of living. So far other places fell short on some of our criterias.
For the last twenty five years we have tried to change, but each time we are reinforced in our view to have found our harmonies place in this world.
The ultimate test to us is the sincere warm we encounter from our neighbors and the rest in the community.

Chetwynd is the place to raise kids as there is so much to do and experience. It truely is the small town with a large heart.

Geocaching Capital?
Date: Nov 3, 2009
Entry: Geocaching is the sport of using a GPS to find hidden containers filled with "treasure." It's an activity that can be enjoyed by the old, the young, the diabled and abled persons. It can be a quiet, personal quest or an enthusiastic family event. However you chose to geocache, it gets you outside and moving. As geocachers we promote respect for the environment with our "Cache in Trash Out" mentality.
After having geocached through the Peace, Cariboo, Okanogan and Kooteney Regions this past Fall I believe that Chetwynd is hands down the Geocaching Capital of BC. There are more geocaches available here per capita than any of the other places I cached at.
We love our outdoor activites. We love to share our space with others. Go Chetwynd!
