Thanks for everything!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Yesterday we received your box of goodies. MY ROOM JUST EXPLODED WITH EXCITEMENT. Stanley already has a Pitt Meadows pin attached to his hat. He has been loved and cuddled so many times! My children are waiting until Nov.6 to put on the Armstrong pins. We are going to use your cheese. That was a great surprise. Megan's picture with Stanley, along with your letter are proudly displayed on our hall window. Before we send Stanley back to you(He must have a feast of salad and grilled cheese sandwiches) we are going to take pictures of him around the school and we are also going to city hall with him. I would like to bet that Armstrong will be on the minds of my students in the summer. I'm going to encourage them to personally visit the wonderful lady who responded to my e-mail. You are terrific. Thank you so very much. Submitted by Ms. Seko Pitt Meadows Elementary School 4/5 Class
PS - the Big Garganzola (aka the teacher) thanks you so very much!

Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Terry McKinty, Manager of Askews' Foods in Armstrong, submitted his name to be considered as a torchbearer for the 2010 Torch Run. Our community and our Chamber of Commerce are thrilled he was chosen - and will be carrying the torch right here in Armstrong! Terry has been a great support of local businesses, organizations and the Chamber of Commerce. We think this is a great choice - well deserving for a genuinely nice guy. Terry - we will be cheering you on as you bear the torch through Armstrong on January 26th! Congratulations!

At the end of the rainbow
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Coming down Pleasant Valley Road one day after a storm, I was thinking about an upcoming event and how fortunate I was to have the opportunity to work with some great volunteers, energetic youth, and in a great community! I love my job at the Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Centre - the work is never the same from one day to the next and being a small Chamber, we plan and organize many of the events that happen. I am happy that we are able to call Armstrong home - and the seeing the rainbow that afternoon put it all into perspective. What was at the end of the rainbow - a pot of gold of course! I believe those who live, work and play here already know that we have won the gold medal - for communities that is!

What a surprise!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Dear Visitor Centre Staff: What a surprise when we came home from work on a Friday night and found your packet! Nobody here had expected to get back the camera with most of our photos from out trip to Canada and you can imagine that we all were overcome with joy. I know my parents had contacted you already to express their thanks but I too wanted to say thank you so much for all your efforts to help us. Without your help we would never have managed to share the memoirs of a wonderful trip to Canada and to British Columbia.
Kind Regards, Andrea

Many hands make light work!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: A very successful afternoon of cutting fabric for the scarves took place upstairs at Hassen Hall yesterday. There were about 14 people there and things went very well. Every color of fleece was cut into scarves, with the exception of the green fleece, which should arrive today. If you missed the workbee, there are 2 more opportunities to take part, one Monday at 4:00 and another one on Tuesday at 4:00. Bring a friend - bring your leftover Christmas baking to share! Those who care - will share!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: The purpose of the Armstrong Spallumcheen Medical Equipment Loan Cupboard is to provide medical equipment to residents who may need short or long term items such as electric beds, crutches, walkers, etc. It is as easy as calling the great volunteers there and arranging pick up and/or delivery. What a great service for our community!

Schubert supports the games anyways!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Hi there - my name is Schubert and I am one of the mascots at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Visitor Centre. I have been really excited about the games since the announcement in Vancouver - and could hardly wait to send in my name to be a torchbearer for the 2010 Torch Run. I worked very hard on the application - I even talked the boss into letting me wear one of the Visitor Centre 2010 vests for a photo complete with how I would look carrying the torch. Unfortunately, I wasn't chosen to be a torch bearer - something about not being allowed to carry the torch and my cheese - apparently they were worried about the mess melted cheese might cause. And as much as I love the Torch Run and the Games I love my cheese - that is why I am so healthy! Anyways - even though I won't be carrying the torch through our community, I will be cheering on those who are - and cheering on our athletes during the games. I wonder if our live site is serving cheese?...

Not just business
Date: Jan 3, 2010
Entry: In town, we have a great little restaurant called the Brown Derby Cafe. The Brown Derby is known for it's menu items made with locally grown and/or raised food, seasonal favorites (great peach pie!), and an atmosphere that is like no other. Behind the scenes, the owners quietly help where they can - community dinners, free family events, seniors get togethers - they are always willing to help out. Even on Canada Day, where the chef willing sat in the dunk tank to help raise funds for free family events! Thanks Brown Derby
